Yappin’ About Middle Age

How’s the new year treating everyone? Good, I hope!

I was catching up on my end-of-year reading the other day – like reading the Bible in a year, I like to start this about two weeks late – and learned I won an award. A blog I wrote called “You Know You’re an Older Cowboy (or Cowgirl) When…” took the Best Blog Overall award in Western Horseman’s annual contest. How fun! In case you missed it, click to read here.

The theme of growing older ties into a fun little YouTube video I posted a while back. I know, I know – elderly folks are shaking their canes at 36-year-old me yappin’ about my age, but let’s all remember: perspective is everything. To a kindergartener, I’m ancient. To an 83-year-old, I’m a spring chicken. I’m right smack dab in the middle of my lifespan, so I’m going to talk and write about that experience. Here’s the vid:

Aging happens to all of us, but only if we’re lucky. The way I figure it, I have more wrinkles than the average woman my age, but I have zero gray hairs, so it evens out. Also, I expect to notice my first gray hair in about 5…4…3…2….haha that’s the way it goes, right?

Here’s my most viewed blog for the last week. That one consistently receives high views even though it’s several years old, so here’s a slightly newer one that was such a fun story to live. Mostly because for once, my truck wasn’t the one being beat all to heck.

Related news: I made it through the first round of edits on my book! Woo hoo! Now I get to wait for my editor to review it and send it back for Round Two.

Hope everyone has a great day, week, month and entire 2023. Aim high, right? Thanks for following along on my journey and talk to you next month.

    1. Thanks Brian! Haha I bet you have another 20 years left! Truthfully, I’m not really sure when exactly middle age is…I’m in the middle section of life, maybe it’s just the biggest section?

  2. Just read your article and got to check out your blog about “you know your getting older” I could relate, as an old cowboy (70) I can still remember my days spent in the saddle. I hope I never forget them so remember the good times. Congrats on the book, I look forward to reading it.
